This integrated language skills course is for students who wish to upgrade their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills for academic and non-academic purposes.
The reading and writing sections of the course are designed for students who have intermediate level academic writing experience and upper intermediate listening and speaking skills.
The reading and writing sections of the course include;
- specific reading skills such as predicting, scanning, skimming, guessing meaning from context note-taking from authentic sources
- practice writing a variety of essays including compare/contrast, cause /effect and/or argument patterns.
- practice summary writing and paraphrasing techniques
- additional experience in process writing techniques
The listening and speaking sections include;
- strategies for comprehending and producing upper intermediate to advanced level discourse in an academic setting.
- listening and responding to authentic academic-focused lectures and presentations
- more advanced note-taking strategies
- provides students with further practice in developing and producing academic style oral presentations
Grammar and punctuation elements will be integrated and reinforced across the four skill areas.
Prerequisites:
Successful Completion of Level 4
EAP Placement Test Score – Level 5
Course timings: either mornings (9-1) or evenings (5-9)
