April 17th, 2018: The Department of Environmental Health Sciences hosted a presentation on new methodological approaches in epidemiological research. The presentation was delivered b ySenior Epidemiologist, Dr. Ali Artaman, Assistant Professor  the University of Manitoba (Canada).

In his presentation, Dr. Ali highlighted the need for a more comprehensive approach to epidemiological research in the region and emphasized the need for a systematic assessment of factors associated with chronic diseases, particularly cancer.

A question-and-answer session at the end of the presentation allowed the audience to ask more about the prevalence and epidemiological methods used to pin down the status of cancer and other chronic diseases.

Speaking after the event, Dr. Ali wished the students well for the future and said he was impressed by the quality and the level of their knowledge.

Dr. Yassen Alfoteih, Assistant Professor and the organizer of the event, thanked Dr. Ali for his visit and for the work he has done in strengthening collaborations with scientific institutions in Canada.

He added that while CUD students already have a good background in epidemiology and research methods, having an expert like Dr. Ali on campus broadens the students’ horizons and increases their skills and competencies.

As a follow-up to the event, Dr. Yassen and Dr. Ali discussed opportunities for mutual research activities in the fields of epidemiology, environmental biology and occupational health research.
