Honeywell Team Mentors CUD Students in Innovation Day Camp

April 24th, 2018: Karen Owens, a business consultant and corporate trainer, led a workshop for 50 students from Dr. Joanna Seraphim’s Entrepreneurial Theories and Practice class. The workshop and related competition were sponsored by INJAZ, UAE and Honeywell.

The workshop taught students how to take a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) approach to problem solving, public speaking, teamwork, critical thinking, marketing and business planning.

Using this information, the students were divided into teams, each mentored by an executive from Honeywell, a software solutions company based in the UAE.

The teams were given the opportunity to work on a project concerning the University and, after they had presented their findings, they were given feedback by the mentors. They then engaged in a further project focusing on the Dubai Smart Cities Initiative.

At the end of their second presentation, the winning team was announced. The first-place prize was awarded to the team led by Noura Itani

One of the mentors, Ross Butler, said he was impressed by the dedication and commitment of the students. He stressed the relevance of STEM in solving a whole range of real-life problems.
