Wednesday, November 29 2017 - Block B: The IEEE Association’s student branch at Canadian University Dubai recently launched their new ‘Innovation Corner’ in Block B during an event attended by a large number of engineering students and faculty.
During the event the IEEE student branch Chair, Shaheerah Khan explained the purpose of the innovation corner and how it will benefit students during their academic journey.
IEEE student branch Secretary Mehak Butt announced the first self-learning workshop “Introduction to Arduino”, an open source hardware which was then followed by a short speech from Dr. Hichem Ben El Mechaiekh, Dean of Engineering and Architecture who emphasized the importance of supporting of student initiatives which contribute to a better student-life, especially the ones that keep students updated with the latest technology, trends and innovation.
The ‘Innovation Corner’ is a collaborative learning space made for students to develop new technical skills through well-developed hands-on activities and with the aid of different kinds of technological tools. This new space will provide students with the opportunity to learn new skills every week. It will also allow them to develop their own innovative projects.
Some future activities that the students would have a chance to work on in the corner will include: working with embedded systems including Arduino, Raspberry-Pi, the IoT to name a few, as well as innovative technologies such as image processing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and last but not least - Web and Application Development.
