Merx will also speak about her experience working with a diverse group of editors from around the country and how she’s put together a comprehensive coverage plan even in the most extreme conditions.
After working for both small and large publications ranging from The Detroit Free Press and Bloomberg Business to being a city reporter in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Crains, Katie has several awards under her belt. She has experience covering diverse beats, including healthcare, the automotive industry and local politics.

As a PR specialist, she has overseen a brand’s internal and external communications, developed social media strategies and built a content creation platform.
Katie has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and sociology from Northwestern University, a master’s degree in media management from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has undergone intensive business reporting training at the University of Pennsylvania – The Wharton School.
