University News
New Student ID Cards
All Undergraduate students will be issued new Student ID cards in the coming months. These new cards will enable many new features such as integrated parking and library access. All students will also be issued a copy of the Student Handbook on a USB drive. Once these items are ready for collection, more information will be communicated through the Newsletter, screens and SMS on how you can obtain your new ID card.
Designers Guild Interior Design Competition
We are proud of our Interior Design students who participated and won first place in the "Designer's Guild Interior Design Competition" at the Maison D´art Showroom in Jumeirah. ´Maison D´art´, a creative Home Dècor company invited some of our third and fourth year Interior Design Students to take part in the event and compete with participants from various Universities; Ajman University and American University in Dubai to name a few.
We would like to congratulate our students Eli Sadeghi, Sahar Zarei, Daniel Shirazi and Elaheh Mozafari for their winning design. In addition to prizes by Maison D´art and Inside Out magazine, they were awarded the unique opportunity to have their work displayed at the Maison D´art´ showroom window for six months. Details of the event will be covered in the next issue of "Inside Out Magazine".

MoU signing with Souq.com
In a major initiative between the Canadian University of Dubai and ecommerce leader in the region, Souq.com, students will have access to internships, lectures and mentoring from industry pioneers to nurture their entrepreneurial aspirations.
Saygin Yalcin, vice president, Souq.com stated: "If you have a look around the world, the hotbed for entrepreneurial activity is most often universities. It is in their university years that students think big and take risks. We want to nurture their ambitions by mentoring them through interactive lectures and internships.
He added: "The Canadian University of Dubai is one of the most modern educational institutions in the region. As such, we are confident that through this partnership we will learn a lot from the young minds at the University."
Buti Saeed Al Ghandi, the Chancellor of the Canadian University of Dubai stated: "The skills a student garners through internships and interactions from those in the industry are a necessity. We are glad that an industry pioneer like Souq.com, has set an example by devoting their resources to nurture and mentor the young minds in region with this unique partnership".
This first of kind MoU also will result in collaboration on general program courses emphasizing entrepreneurship, research initiatives, and an annual industry conference on entrepreneurship.
The MoU Signing took place in the Red Theatre on February 6th, 2013.
Engineering Success Day Feb.19
The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Technology is pleased to organize its first Success Day for Engineering students. The activities of the day include international key note speaker, governmental showcase, student activities and alumni recognition on Tuesday February 19th, 2013. Key note speaker and presenter Dr. Adel Omar Dahman from the University of Quebec, Canada will be addressing the topic of "Current challenges in Research and Development for wireless communications".

National Workshop on Landscaping UAE Cities Feb.20
The Canadian University of Dubai and Dubai based International Center for Biosaline Agriculture have integrated their resources to explore the challenges and opportunities regarding landscaping as well as share experiences and develop networks with stakeholders in the UAE through organizing a National Workshop "Landscaping UAE Cities: Landscape Architecture As Driving Force".
The "Landscape Architecture as Driving Force" Workshop will be held here at the Canadian University of Dubai on the 20th of February from 10:00am — 4:00pm. President Dr. Karim Chelli will be on the Steering committee along with Dr. Hakim Khali, Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs. Associate Professors Dr. Hoshiar Nooradin and Dr. Rami El Khatib will be members of the Technical committee.
Block B Parking compound changes
In order to minimize potential hazards and in an effort to improve safety on campus, there have been changes made to the Block B parking compound. Unfortunately, these changes have resulted in a reduced number of parking spaces. Please note that double parking is not allowed and that spaces will be made available on a first come first serve basis.
If you are unable to accommodate your vehicle inside the compound, please see Mr. Yusri in Block A for a full refund. Alternatively, free parking is available in the new parking area South-west of campus. We encourage students to utilize this new parking lot and apologize for any inconvenience.
Feeling Better Now
Feeling Better Now is Canada's only medically based, medically approved interactive mental health e-tool. It is fully anonymous and confidential and provides assessment, diagnostic risk and care maps for common mental health disorders. This is a special service available to Canadian University of Dubai Staff and Students.

Welcome Back Event Success Feb.2
A big thank you to the Student Services and our Student Council for organizing the Welcome Back party for students, staff and faculty! It gave new students a chance to get acquainted with the University, sign-up for activities and meet their student council members. After an exciting `Debbkeh´ performance, everyone got together for a powerful, interactive group drumming session with Dubai Drums. The delicious food got great reviews, and the first ever on- campus water balloon fight and scavenger hunt ensured all the guests stayed entertained throughout!

Movie Night Feb.5
Our newly elected Student Council members organized their very first event on campus in collaboration with Student Services. "Movie Night" was held at the Red Theatre and box office hits "Red" and "Hunger Games" were screened for student packed theatre between 5:00-9:00pm. Keep an eye out for more fun activities by our Student Council in the coming weeks!
Internship Workshop Feb.10
The Student Success center has a career Workshop coming up consisting of seminars designed to help students improve their CV and Cover writing skills. The workshop will be held on the 10th of February in Block B, room B1-14. The Internship Workshop will also help you learn tools to develop your interview and negotiation skills while applying for a job. Sports: Football Training Feb.12 /Feb.14

Valentine´s Day Feb.12-14
Love is in the air again! Student Services wants to make this Valentine´s a special one. Keep your hearts and eyes open between 12th and 14th February for the Valentine´s Day activities on campus; tables will be set up where you can purchase Valentine´s Day items, win vouchers for a couple´s photo-shoot, enjoy Valentine´s Day custom-made baked goodies at the bake sale and many other exciting Valentine´s Day activities.

Study Skills Sessions Feb 12/Feb.19
Effective learning requires strong study skills! That´s why we encourage students to attend the Study Skills Workshops organized by the Student Success Center on the 12th and 19th of February. The workshops will be conducted in Block B, room B1-14 will discuss topics such as the importance of time management and effective study skills that will help you get the best out of your exam preparations. In addition to helping you improve your organization and independent learning skills, the workshop will also shed light on the value of academic integrity. Desert Safari Feb.16
Get away from the hustle and bustle of city life on the desert Safari coming up on the 16th of February. Safari drivers will take you on a thrilling dune bashing ride deep in the Arabian desert. You are sure to work up an appetite for traditional Arabic food and live entertainment at the heritage camp in the heart of the desert. Career Fair Feb.20
Our Career Fair allows employers and students the opportunity interact and to discuss vocational opportunities. Employers will also be given the unique opportunity to pre-screen candidates.
The fair will be held from 11:00am to 4:00pm in the Block C courtyard and consultation rooms will be provided after 4pm to interview any potential candidates. Our Career Fair will bring together students with expertise in various disciplines from our six Academic Schools:

Splash Fashion League 2013 Feb.22nd
Splash is having its Spring/Summer 2013 Fashion Show at the Madinat Arena, Madinat Jumeirah. The show is aptly titled 'Splash Fashion League' and Canadian University of Dubai students are invited to the stylish event! Collect your invite for free from the Student Services Office in (C1-05).

Our health department in collaboration with the Kamilia Clinic has scheduled a free dental checkup and psychological consultation session. Swing by the Block B courtyard between 1:00pm-5:00pm on Monday 25th February for your free consultation.
Nigerian Debate Mar.2
Canadian University of Dubai will be participating in the Inter College Debate 2013 for Nigerian Students in U.A.E Universities under the Patronage of Embassy of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Abu Dhabi, and U.A.E. The objective of this event is to promote academic excellence and the contribution of Nigerian youth to socio-economic discourse.
