6th Annual Global Day-Our Best yet!
On March 23rd we celebrated our 6th Annual Global day and this year was bigger and better than any other year! There were over 20unique stalls, each representing their culture and heritage as well as lots of exciting performances on our outdoor stage to celebrate the diversity of the University community.
For the first time in Global Day history, the overall prize was taken by not one but two countries! Iran and Palestine both tied as the overall winners of the event for representing their countries beautifully through tent displays and traditional performances. A big shout out to the all the participants for their hard work and creativity that earned them first place!
We would like to congratulate Sinan Ahmed of Iraq and Rapper Mohammed Walid Al Sirwan for delivering the "Best Musical Performances" of the evening. India won "Best Dance" performance for their lively Bollywood dance routine. Algeria won out in the "Best Tent" category for their traditional food, sweets, tent decoration and the wonderful traditional Fashion Show put together by the hosts. Prizes for "Best Fashion" were awarded to Haider Ali of Pakistan and Hauwa Usman of Nigeria.
On behalf of Student Services, we would like to thank our sponsors for their contributions and helping make the event a success. The African Food Company sponsored the Nigerian tent with mouthwatering, authentic Nigerian cuisine. Of course Red Bull was on campus in full effect, supplying all of our students and staff with energy to get through the day!

Spring Break Mar. 31
With Spring Break just around the corner, we're positive you're eager to enjoy some time off and unwind after these last busy weeks of assignments, deadlines, and midterm exams. 30th March will be the last day of classes before Spring break commences on Saturday 31stMarch.Classes are scheduled to resume on Sunday the following week on April 7th.
We hope Spring Break gives you a chance to switch gears--whether it's catching up with family and friends or travelling to a new destination to unwind. On behalf of the Communication Department, we wish you a relaxing Spring Break!
Canadian University of Dubai at GETEX 2013 Apr. 17 - 19
Canadian University of Dubai is set to take part in GETEX again this year! The event will take place from the 17th to the 19th of April at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre under the patronage of the UAE Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research.
GETEX is one of the most prominent Educational Fairs in the region and gives local and International Universities a platform to showcase their program offerings and engage prospective students. Open hours at the exhibition are between 10.00 - 14.00 & 17.00 - 21.00 Hours on 17th and 18th April and 15.00 - 21.00 Hours on 19th April.
There is already a buzz going about all the exciting activities planned for our GETEX stand this year. Prospective students will get to participate in "Win Without Words", an interactive competition where the participant will have to convey messages written on hidden placards using only sign language and gestures within 2 minutes. The competition will take place on Friday April 19th at 6.00pm and winners will be awarded exciting prizes.
Canadian University of Dubai to host WMNC' 2013
The Canadian University of Dubai is proud to be organizing the 6th Joint International IFIP Wireless and Mobile Networking Conference (WMNC 2013) on April 23rd-25th, 2013. The prestigious event is organized in cooperation with IFIP TC6 and supported by the IEEE Communications Society- USA.
WMNC'2013 provides a forum for discussion between researchers, practitioners and students interested in new developments in mobile and wireless networks, services, applications and mobile computing.

Cosmo Girl on Campus March. 20
Were you on campus when Cosmo Campus Awards road show pitched up in Block C? Students got their tresses pampered by professional hair stylists courtesy Phillips and were treated to a free consultation with skin-gurus from Bioderma. The girls had a great time playing the Promod 'iPad-scratch' game to win shopping vouchers worth over 200AED and trying on the latest eye-wear by Vogue. Sports Week Apr. 11 - 18
If you've been looking for a fun way to keep fit, look no further. Student Services has organized Sports Week starting April 11th where teams representing each School/ Major within the University (Engineering, Architecture & Interior Design, Business, Environment & Health, and Communication) will compete with each other in a series of matches for first place. There are a ton of Sports to choose from; Pool, Chess, Badminton, Tennis, Football, Volleyball, Table tennis and Basketball.
You can also participate in the friendly 3.4 kilometer 'Fun Run' during Sports Week, the proceeds of which will go to charity. Staff and faculty members are welcome to take part and represent the University staff team during Sports Week.

Dragon Boating Apr. 12
Our students and staff had such a great time at the last Dragon Boating event in Abu Dhabi, we decided to take part in another one this April! This time around the event will take place at Festival Marina, Dubai Festival City.
Participants will receive a dedicated training session with an international Dragon Boat coach, festival entry and exciting prizes such as tickets to the Dragon Boat After-race Party at the Belgian Cafe Garden, Crowne Plaza Dubai Festival City on April 12th!
The Dragon Boating Festival is a great event for anyone looking for a fun way to work out and then party afterwards. Tickets are priced at 75AED per head and seats are limited so all participants must sign up with Mary Alison at the Student Services Office (C1-05) no later than April 10th.
Interior Design Day Apr. 16
The School of Architecture and Interior Design has organized Interior Design Day to highlight and celebrate the work of our Interior Design students. The main objective of Interior Design Day is to give the students a chance to exhibit their designs and talk about their concepts.
Various leading textile, material, structure and Interior Design companies will be on campus to interact with students and exchange insights.
Our third-year Interior Design students will also be painting their very own model pieces and displaying them in Block C to compete for first place at the Interior Design competition. A panel of judges will deliberate and announce the winning models. Swing by Block C on Tuesday, April 16th to check out the exhibition and contact Mr. Serkan at serkan@cud.ac.ae for more information.
Interschool General Knowledge Quiz Apr. 16
Think you're the sharpest tool in the shed? It's your chance to prove it at the Interschool General Knowledge Quiz coming up on April 16th. Students from various Schools within the University (Engineering, Architecture & Interior Design, Business, Environment & Health, and Communication) will battle their wits during this fun quiz.

Graduation Fairs Apr.17 / Apr. 20
Graduation fairs will be happening from 3pm - 7pm, on April 17thand April 20th at the Red Theatre BLOCK A. It is mandatory for students wishing to graduate to attend at least one of the graduation fairs.
The fair will include a brief presentation for students outlining the structure of the convocation ceremony. Graduating students will be fitted for gowns and receive their Graduation Ceremony Confirmation form. Also there will be a ton of Graduation Memorabilia items you may wish to purchase; yearbook, diploma folder and much more.

Terry Fox Run Dubai Apr. 19
Have you signed up to participate in the annual Terry Fox Run Dubai yet? The Terry Fox Run is an anon-competitive charity event that takes place all over the world in commemoration of Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox, and his Marathon of Hope, and to raise money for cancer research.
The Terry Fox Run Dubai 2013 will take place on April 19th.Interested students, staff and faculty must sign up with John Sherratt at the Student Services Office (C1-05) or email him j.sherratt@cud.ac.ae before April 14th to participate.
Sports Highlights
Looks like another exciting season for the Canadian University of Dubai Sports squads! Our teams recently took part in the DIAC Cup, the GMU Sports Festival, HESF Karate tournament and brought back a few medals while they were at it!
We couldn't be more proud of our Boys' Football team for winning the Final at the DIAC CUP tournament on a penalty shootout. Well played boys!
Congratulations to our Girls Basketball Squad as well on a fantastic performance during the DIAC CUP and GMU Sports Festival at the Gulf Medical University. The girls played consistently well and made it through to the semi-final stage during both tournaments.
The Boys Basketball team put on a superb performance participating in the GMU Sports Festival and made it all the way to the final game.
A special shout out to Oussama Rsaissi for making us proud at the DIAC CUP by finishing in first place at the Athletics Event 1500mtrs race.
Kudos to student Fadi Al Mobayed who won two Bronze medals and Mohamed Al Sayed who won Gold and Bronze at the Karate finals during the HESF tournament.
On behalf of the Sports department, we would like to thank the student community for the support they extended and for coming out to cheer for so many of our teams during their matches.
