November 9th, 2016: Delegates from across the region’s design and construction industry have benefited from an intensive training program in the next generation of architectural technology, recently organized by Canadian University Dubai (CUD) corporate training services.
Delivered by Assistant Professor, Mr. Florian Techel, the Building Information Modelling (BIM) Essentials program provided professionals working across various disciplines in the design industry with an introduction to the fundament aspect of BIM – a new industry standard that is transforming the way teams contribute and collaborate in construction projects.
The new technology supports the design of a building as a digital 3D model, rather than the traditional 2D drawing. It is a revolutionary paradigm in the industry that allows for the addition of metadata, which can be shared among all stakeholders to deliver instant design updates, helping to dramatically speed up the construction lifecycle.
Presented in collaboration with Mr. Mohannad Altabbal of technology services provider, BIM Engineering Solutions (BIMES), the program provided delegates with a comprehensive introduction to the key aspects of BIM; a format and strategies for its implementation; and a framework to critically evaluate the performance of BIM applications.
This latest program is one of a number of training initiatives organized by CUD to help prepare the industry in the region to face this dramatic transformation in processes. In 2015 the University collaborated with Dubai Municipality to deliver BIM training to its team of architects and engineers.
As the technology has become increasingly recognized as the next generation of architecture design, this year’s program saw high attendance from private sector firms. Alaa Alyehia of Scope Engineering said, “The course was a good experience to develop understanding of this new field of architecture and engineering. The instructors provided us with both a wide range of knowledge and a critical view of the field.”
