CUD Welcomes New GEMS Students

September 9th, 2018: Sixteen students from GEMS High Schools in the UAE have embarked upon their degree programs at Canadian University Dubai (CUD), as part of an ongoing agreement that sees the University offer scholarships to the value of AED 10 Million to GEMS Education graduates.

CUD is pleased to welcome Kyle De Souza, Sheldon D’Souza, Mostafa Hassan, Omar Karim, Eshaal Khan, Yuvraaj Kohli, Ardra Meletath, Umair Memon, Sohail Mohammed, Gayatri Nair, Tahreem Niazi, Bhagyasree Ramakrishnan, Sasha Ravendrad, Gautam Sawlani, Mika Schreiber and Mustafa Syed. The students have now settled into their studies and are looking forward to life at University.

Sheldon D’Souza from GEMS Our Own Indian School is studying Marketing and says he was very impressed with CUD and found the Orientation week very useful for acquainting him with University life.

Kyle De Souza from GEMS Our Own High School, also a student of Marketing, especially enjoyed the recreational events that were held during Orientation, including the talent show in the Red Theater and the egg drop challenge. Kyle has already handed in his first assignment and is hoping for a good mark.

PR student, Ardra Meletath, from Our Own English High School in Sharjah found out about the University from a friend and was very impressed when she visited the campus for the Open House. She had the opportunity to meet with Faculty, and says this was an important factor in convincing her to join CUD. Ardra found the Orientation week very helpful as it gave her the opportunity to meet new friends and settle in quickly.

Interior Design student, Sasha Ravendradas, who has joined CUD from GEMS Dubai American Academy, says she has already signed up for five student clubs.  She enjoyed the Orientation as it proved to be a great ice breaker in her first week at University. Sasha was impressed by the help CUD offers to students who are facing challenges with their studies, or other aspects of university life. She hopes to spend two years at CUD and then transfer to either Ryerson or Vancouver University to complete her studies.

Mostafa Hassan from GEMS Westminster School is embarking on CUD’s new Mechatronics program and came to the University on the recommendation of friends. Mostafa says he is enjoying his new experience and is very impressed with the social life at CUD, where he hopes to complete his full degree.

Speaking on behalf of the University, Mr. Brian Banford, Chief Advancement Officer said, “I am delighted with the initial success of our agreement with GEMS. It highlights the benefits of reaching out to High Schools throughout the region in order to bring the brightest students to Canadian University Dubai. I am confident that our ongoing collaboration will help us continue to build on this very encouraging start.”
