430 Students Receive Their Degrees


Canadian University Dubai graduation ceremony attended by H. H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Industry

Dubai, April 26, 2017 – The Canadian University Dubai celebrated the graduation of 430 of its undergraduate and graduate students on April 26, 2017 at a special ceremony held under the patronage, and in the attendance, of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Industry. H.H. Sheikh Hamdan attended the event along with H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development for the UAE and the Canadian Ambassador to the UAE, H.E. Masud Husain.

Four hundred and thirty students were awarded degrees from across the spectrum of Canadian University Dubai’s 40 program offerings in Business Administration, Public Health and Health Sciences, Engineering and Applied Science & Technology, Architecture and Design, Communication and Media Studies and the Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The student speaker for the event, Sheikh Maktoum bin Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who was graduating from the School of Business Administration, followed His Excellency with some words to his fellow graduates.  He hailed the UAE’s leaders for laying a strong foundation for the nation’s growth, based on the principle of embracing all cultures and religions in an atmosphere of peace and harmony. Addressing the parents of the young graduates, Sheikh Maktoum lauded their role in helping their children reach this proud stage, and assured them that they would never let them down. He also thanked Canadian University Dubai for imparting high-value education to its students.

The University’s Vice Chancellor and President, Dr. Karim Chelli said of the graduation, “Our University now boasts more than 3,000 students from 120 nationalities. So this ceremony is not just the celebration of our graduates and their momentous achievement, but also our mission and vision to unite cultures and continents through education.  The fact that our graduation has attracted such prestigious guests from around the world, guests who are leaders in academics and leaders in government, is testament to our commitment to providing our students with a high quality education and the links and experience they need to succeed here in the UAE, in Canada or anywhere else their career paths take them. “

The event was attended by members of the University’s Board of Trustees including former Heritage Minister, Environment Minister and  Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, the honourable Sheila Copps, Former Premier of Ontario, Canada, the honourable Dalton Mcguinty, former Assistant Deputy Minister of Education and Training for the province of Ontario, Canada, Garth Jackson, Dr. Raymond Hebert, Retired Professor, Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, and the honourable Aldea Landry, former Cabinet Minister and Deputy Premier of New Brunswick, and Abdulla Mohd Obaidallah, Member of the Board of Directors for Emirates Investment and Development.

Representatives from one of the University’s educational partners Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada were also present at the event, where they announced the creation of a new Creative Education Hub and Faculty of Communication and Design in Dubai in collaboration with the University.
