CUD Announces 2016 Canada Day Scholarship Winners

September 6th, 2016: Two students from the School of Communication and Media Studies are set to embark upon an international education experience following the award of the annual Canada Day Scholarships at Canadian University Dubai (CUD).

Nada Anan and Marwa Jumah will start their degree programs at CUD on a one-year, 100% scholarship awarded by the University, in coordination with the Canadian Embassy and the Consulate General in Dubai. Both girls then plan to take up the unique opportunity to transfer their credits to one of CUD’s partner institutions and complete their higher education in Canada.

Originating from Palestine, journalism major Nada is aiming to pursue her passion for storytelling and is excited about the opportunities ahead. She said, “Growing up in a conflict zone has had a powerful effect on my ambitions. My hope is that one day I will be able to tell the stories of the Palestinian people all around the world, and getting a top-class international education will be the first step to achieving this goal.

“I am honored to receive this scholarship and grateful for the welcome I have received at CUD. The University already feels like home and ultimately I’m looking forward to making a home in Canada in the future.”

Meanwhile, fellow scholarship awardee Marwa is excited about expressing her creativity through a major in advertising. She said, “I love being imaginative and inventive, and CUD was always my first choice to study advertising because I knew that the Canadian perspectives of learning would promote that freedom of expression.

“I have always wanted to study in Canada and this scholarship will give me the opportunity to start my university journey and benefit from a strong curriculum in the UAE before I make the transition to study overseas.”

Established in 2013 to celebrate the University’s bonds with Canada, the Canada Day Scholarships provide recipients with the opportunity to embark upon an accredited degree program at CUD, which bases its programs on Canadian curriculum and education principles.
