CUD Graduate Joins Abu Dhabi Think Tank

August 4th, 2016: Canadian University Dubai (CUD) graduate, Yara Younis, has set out to help re-examine the way we think about the world, following her recent appointment as a researcher with Abu Dhabi think tank, The Delma Institute.

A graduate of the Bachelor of Communication in Advertisement program, Yara is now working on research projects designed to raise, and explore solution to, some of the most challenging issues of the 21st century.

Working directly with the Institute’s managing director, Yara is responsible for analyzing Arab affairs from a media, sociological, and international relations theory perspectives, specifically in the West Asia and North Africa region.

Yara discovered her passion for international relations while studying at CUD, and credits her university experience and strong support from her professors for sparking her interest in research. She said, “CUD provided a unique spirit in allowing me to explore ideas through class discussions and projects, giving me the motivation to write and think of my own research projects.

“This increased my curiosity, and I continued to read anything and everything to gain more knowledge on topics related to media, politics, psychology, sociology, and their interdisciplinary role in world affairs. In the end, CUD helped me to realize that modern challenges require interdisciplinary skills, and efforts from the people of my generation to ambitiously work together in search for advancement and solutions.”

The Delma Institute, founded in 2013, brings together thinkers and practitioners from a wide range of backgrounds, including politics, design, literature, economics, security, oil and gas, mining, banking, and art. It uses an interdisciplinary blend of research and visualisation to understand and provide insight into contexts locally, and regionally.

Undaunted by the pace of global change, Yara believes this is exactly the challenge she was looking for following her graduation. She concluded, “Delma allows me to escalate my curiosity to greater heights with likeminded, yet wonderfully argumentative individuals who allow me to grow in every aspect. It is a combination of producing content that matters, an environment that nurtures great research ideas, and an interdisciplinary craft that is soon to be breaking ground.”
