June 8th, 2016: Mr. Massimo Imparato, Assistant Professor in the School of Architecture and Interior Design at Canadian University Dubai (CUD), has been sharing his expertise with industry practitioners at the UAE INDEX International Design Exhibition held recently at Dubai World Trade Centre.
Mr. Imparato delivered two presentations and took part in a panel discussion during his participation in the designer’s forum and design talks, which ran alongside the four-day event. Contributing to the debates on design innovations, hospitality design, and urban atmospheres, Mr. Imparato addressed a range of current design industry issues and trends.
On the subject of innovation, Mr. Imparato spoke about the growing trend towards interior spaces influencing the way in which outdoor spaces are designed. He discussed examples of how building façades have become an extension of the interior design, and examined the evolving relationship in which interiors influence the architectural envelope.
In a subsequent panel discussion, Mr. Imparato was among a group of design professors and practitioners who took the floor to debate what was labeled ‘the ever-changing present’ in hospitality design. The discussion focused upon the need to balance history and present, and permanence and variation, within contemporary hospitality projects.
During day three of the event, Mr. Imparato presented his work on sustainable urban settings, opening the debate on the vision to promote the greater use of outdoor space, its implications for the design industry, and the efforts of brands, designers and developers in creating sustainable urban atmospheres that can impact upon people’s lifestyles.
INDEX, now in its 26th year, is the GCC’s biggest event of its kind for the design industry, and this year saw 850 exhibitors and more than 27,000 visitors in attendance. The designer’s forum and design talks run in parallel to the exhibition, to bring together leading figures in the industry to exchange ideas and debate the future of the sector.
