DUBAI, JUNE 20, 2017 – Dr. Ons Bouachir, an expert in wireless communications engineering and professor at the Canadian University Dubai, together with lab instructors Omar Mashaal and Sijo Sudheendran visited GEMS Westminster school on June 18, 2017 in order to demonstrate sophisticated robotics technology to science teachers. As it presented the workshops at the Westminster school’s annual teachers’ professional development Innovation Conference, the team from the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture was accompanied by Dr. Hichem Ben El Mechaiekh, the Dean of the Faculty and by Timothy Graystone, Instructor and School Liaison Manager.
“We are pleased to participate to the conference and show the power of robotics and wireless communications and the importance of science teaching and learning as a basis for future technological advances. We were also delighted to touch basis and exchange views with mathematics and science educators at all levels,” said Dr. Hichem. “We value the work they do, at all levels, in providing their pupils with the knowledge and skills needed to access higher education and instill in their minds an appreciation and passion for the sciences. With increased automation, the robotics industry will only continue to grow and as access to the materials needed to build and develop simple robots becomes easier, so does the opportunity to introduce robotics into the classroom. It makes learning the fundamental sciences fun and tangible for students. Our own students in the Canadian University Dubai Robotics Club and staff would be pleased to assist GEMS Westminster school’s science teachers in establishing a local robotics club and integrate robotics in their teaching anytime!”
The Canadian University Dubai robotics team recently triumphed in the UAE national finals of the GCC Robotics Challenge for the second year in a row, and is determined to hold the much coveted title in 2018.
