International students at CUD
If you are an international student coming to study at Canadian University Dubai from overseas, the University can assist you with obtaining a student visa to allow you to reside in the UAE for the duration of your studies.
Applying for a visa
You can apply for a visa once you have paid your tuition fees by submitting an electronic, color passport copy and a photograph to your Admissions Officer, along with the relevant visa fee. The University will then apply for a visa on your behalf.
Please note that processing times vary and you should submit your documentation at least 8 weeks prior to the start of the semester to ensure that your application can be handled in good time.
When your application is approved, an electronic visa will be emailed to you prior to your departure from your home country to Dubai. Please ensure that you present this document to the immigration services upon your arrival in the UAE.
After arrival
Once you arrive in Dubai you will have two weeks to complete the formalities to secure your residency in the UAE. This includes a medical examination at one of the Government’s designated clinics, and submission of an Emirates ID card application.
You should then submit your original passport and photo, a copy of your electronic visa, your medical report and a copy of your Emirates ID application to the CUD visa services desk at the registration counter in Hall C on campus, where you can also get more information and guidance about the process. Your visa will then be stamped and you will be notified when it is ready for collection.
Visa renewal and cancellation
Once your visa is stamped it will be valid for one year. You must ensure that you renew your visa before the expiry date. To do this, you will once again need to submit your original passport and photo, your medical report and a copy of your Emirates ID application.
For visa cancellation you should submit your original passport and Emirates ID, and ensure that you have an air ticket to leave the UAE, or have alternative arrangements for visa sponsorship. The University takes no responsibility for students who overstay their visa or commit any other visa violations, including any associated consequences. All students must abide by the rules and regulations of residency in the UAE.
