Nov. 4, 2017 Red Theatre CUD: For the second time in a week our University has hosted a TEDx event. The event called ‘Bridges” was held in conjunction with ‘AlWaslWomen’ and an audience of over 100 was treated to a series of motivational and inspirational women.
Opening the event, Mr. Buti Saeed Al Ghandi, Chancellor of CUD, welcomed delegates and thanked the organizers for their efforts. He cited the vision of Sheikh Zayed (PBUH), who had the vision and foresight to realize the importance of women in Society and instituted steps to empower women in the UAE. This vision was carried on by His Highness Sheikh Nayan who over the years has continued to advance the education of Emirati women.. Mr. Buti stated he was proud of the achievements of CUD in furthering these aims with 45% of our student population being female.
The theme of the speakers at the event was how as individual women they had overcome difficulties and challenges to be where they are today.<
Speakers at the event were: Omaira Farooq Al Olama who concerns herself with encouraging the next generation of women to find the answers they need to succeed, to become a voice and not an echo; Michelle Wu who spoke of the need for individual women to find a mentor to guide them and a sponsor to open doors to success; especially in science, technology engineering and mathematics; Hala Kazim who spoke about the importance of building bridges to the inner heart and of the need to build them in tiny steps and connect with ourselves in a healthy way.
Halim Al Uzaizi felt that instead of teaching from books, it was better for children to learn and build a platform for entrepreneurship through creativity innovation and empathy. It is better to teach them not what to think, rather how to think. The conference was concluded by Hind Abib who told the audience how she started from a low point in her life but gradually confronted her fears and moved out of her comfort zone. She recommended we start small and give it all your energy.
All speakers were enthusiastically received by an appreciative and receptive audience
