Dar Al Khaleej welcomes CUD students

Sharjah, February 18, 2018: Communication and Media students studying Journalism at Canadian University Dubai visited Dar Al Khaleej Press Printing and Publishing. The purpose of the visit was to familiarize students with the work environment in a newsroom and introduce them to professionals in the communications and media industry.

Accompanied by Assistant Professor Dr. Ghada Abaido from the University's Faculty of Communication Arts and Sciences, the students began their tour inside the Information Centre.

They were welcomed by Ms. Maryam Moqadum, Centre Assistant Manager,

who told them about the different publications that were handled by Dar Al Khaleej; the main ones being the Al Khaleej Daily in Arabic and Gulf Today Daily in English. She described the importance of archiving and explained how newspapers were formerly archived manually and how the process has evolved.

Al Khaleej is classified as the most read newspaper in the UAE. Our main rule here is find not only the truth, but also what is behind the truth,” said Ms. Moqadum

She shared the remarkable story of the founders, Dr. Abdalla and Mr. Taryam Omran, and how their vision is still alive today. Students were shown the very first issue of the Al Khaleej newspaper, dated October 19, 1970.

Ms. Moqadum mentioned the names of some of the most respected and well-known writers in the Arab region who have written for Al Khaleej. She also explained the publisher’s main objective, which is to provide knowledge as well as experience. Because of this, the Dar Al Khaleej has become an academy where students from universities can go to practice journalism during their studies.

Students were then taken inside the Gulf Today newsroom. They were welcomed by Executive Editor Mr. Shadab Bakht and Senior Journalist Mr. Riaz Agha,

who explained the different tasks that occur inside the newsroom and how all all the different sections operate on an everyday basis and in times of crisis.

Students Nourhan Elkallawy and Nada Mattar, reporting on the event, stated that the visit was a total success and they all left Dar Al Khaleej Press Printing and Publishing with greater knowledge and valuable experience.
