August 28th, 2018: The University opened its doors to its latest batch of Freshers.
An exciting event and fun packed week involving faculty and staff was launched to welcome hundreds of new undergraduate and postgraduate students for their first semester of studies at the University.
During the opening ceremony in the Red Theatre, students were welcomed by M.C. Elvina Moni who wished the students well and assured them of a happy but busy university experience.
Professor David Santandreu Calonge, Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Arts and Sciences urged the new students to constantly step out of their comfort zone and stretch their personal boundaries. He offered all new students the support of Faculty and Staff whenever they had a problem.
Dr. Nora Barson, Director of 1st year students said that balancing time between hard work and social activity would bring its own rewards. All new students start off with a clean slate and all resources within the university were at their disposal. She referred to the large number of clubs and societies available.
Ms. Liesel Elges, Student Counselor welcomed the students on behalf of Dr. Rami, Director of Student Affairs and referred to the CUD motto of Inspiring Minds and Transforming Lives.
Vayan Eldin, Vice President of the Student Council related her past experiences as a first year student and assured those present that they would all have a fulfilling university life.
Vladislava Morozova, President of the Music Club encouraged people to get involved and treated her audience to a Sam Smith song, “Stay with Me.”
The opening ceremony was followed by a series of events designed to introduce students to the University's academic practices, support services, and campus facilities, and give them the opportunity to meet senior students as well as faculty members from their respective schools.
At the end of the Orientation week, all new students gathered in the Red Theatre for an enthusiastic celebration of music, singing and other talents.
The event marked a further expansion of the University's diverse student body, which currently includes citizens of more than 100 nations. It also highlighted the consistent credibility and growing popularity of programs across each of its academic schools.
