Canadian University of Dubai Announces Two Scholarships in Honour of Canada Day

Abu Dhabi/ Dubai, UAE - July 1, 2013 : His Excellency Mr. Buti Saeed Al Ghandi, Chancellor of the Canadian University Dubai and His Excellency, Arif Z. Lalani, Ambassador of Canada, announced on 1 July 2013 two scholarships in honour of Canada's national day, to be named the annual "Canada Day Scholarships".

The annual scholarships, granted by the Canadian University Dubai, are based on academic merit, and will be awarded to two students commencing their final academic year.

Chancellor Al Ghandi said "These scholarships, in honour of Canada Day, support our community andpromote Canadian perspectives in learning. Bringing these perspectives together within the culture and values of the United Arab Emirates is something that is the core of our University's mission and vision."

Canadian University Dubai President, Prof. Karim Chelli affirmed: "We are pleased to announce the creation of these scholarships. These will be awarded to model students who represent not just academic excellence, but also outstanding contributions to the University and UAE communities. We strive to develop our students into being good community and global citizens - a strong set of values held in common by both the UAE and Canada."

Ambassador Lalani stated: "I am proud that we are celebrating Canada Day by investing in the future of young people. Canadians and Emiratis believe in the essential role that education plays in building a great society. We have a strong history of partnership in the pursuit of excellence in education in the UAE. Therefore, I am thrilled thatthe Canadian University Dubai has chosen to highlight its Canadian links and celebrate Canada Day by awarding two scholarships to outstanding students from its university."

The scholarships will be administered by the Canadian University Dubai, and recipients will be announced by the University each Canada Day.
