Three students will study Architecture and Interior Design for free this summer after winning
a competition at the university's Gulf Education and Training Exhibition stand
Dubai, April 2012: Three Dubai students have won the opportunity to study Architecture and Interior design at the Canadian University Dubai this summer after impressing judges of a competition launched at the 2012 Gulf Education and Training Exhibition (GETEX).
Students visiting the university's stand at GETEX were challenged to design a space using red and white polystyrene cubes in a competition named "The Spontaneous Design of a Space".
Sneha Manoj, 18, beat dozens of students to take first prize, which included not only a free summer course in Architecture and Interior Design with free reading materials but also a free elective course and the wavering of administration fees should she choose to enrol at the university for the coming 2012/2013 academic year.
Second and third prize were taken by Devanshi Gakhiya, 18, and Madiha Sabir, 25, respectively, for their innovative designs. Their prizes included the same free summer course and reading materials, with second prize also including no administration fees in the event that the winner enrols as a full-time student.
Dr Karim Chelli, President and Vice Chancellor at the Canadian University Dubai, says the competition is indicative of the university's desire to encourage creativity among its student body.
"We believe in nurturing the talent that each individual student has within them and in encouraging them to be creative," he said. "Through this, they learn to apply their gifts and talents for the benefit of the community and graduate from our University as well-rounded global citizens."
