February 7th, 2017: Assistant professor, Dr. Vanessa Lobo, is on a mission to help develop a new generation of young achievers through her unique parenting and wellness blog, Cutting Edge Kid.
Dr. Lobo, who combines passionate parenting with teaching in the School of Public Health & Health Sciences at Canadian University Dubai (CUD), has taken to the web to share her experiences and to inspire other families to dream big and to reach their full potential.
A PhD qualified nurse, Dr. Lobo has always pursued a healthy lifestyle, fulfilled her passion for learning, and believes that incorporating simple core values in everyday family life can put the next generation on the road to success.
With humorous family anecdotes and lively interactive exchanges, the blog provides tips on physical wellbeing and intellectual development, as well as delving into a host of day-to-day issues that any mother can relate to.
Covering everything from her ‘sanity saving sleep strategy’ to advice on how to help kids love healthy food, Dr. Lobo has developed an entertaining one-stop-shop for families with young children to share their experiences and learn more about approaches that promote positive personal development.
Speaking about the inspiration for her website, Dr. Lobo, who was born and raised in Canada, said, “I started this blog because when I moved here to Dubai I realized just how isolated and isolating motherhood can be; with nap schedules that need to be factored into everything and chronic exhaustion from acute sleep deprivation."
“One of the most interesting topics to me today is that of human potential and my dream is to see it realized increasingly in my family and around the world. As a nurse, nutrition, healthy living and early childhood development are topics that are near and dear to my heart - and they can play an enormous role in shaping the next generation.”
Sharing her tried and tested solutions to the challenges of modern-day motherhood, Dr. Lobo has gathered an enthusiastic following of international mums, as well as those looking for a little inspiration for self-improvement.
She concluded, “The world keeps spinning faster and faster and although there is an endless stream of information available, it’s hard to know who and what to trust. I wanted to create a community where people could learn from each other’s successes and raise cutting edge kids who will go out into the world and make it better!”
