Dr. Maha Salman a LEED Accredited Professional with specialty (BD+C) architect holding a PhD in Sustainable Architecture from the University of Huddersfield, United Kingdom where she got “The Vice Chancellor's Award for an Outstanding Research Degree Thesis” for a dissertation titled "Sustainability Potential of Traditional Architecture with Reference to Domestic Buildings in UAE".
Dr. Salman has gained her professional experience as a professor and researcher through studying and working in a number of institutions in Canada, UK, and The Middle East. In addition to her work as an academic, Dr. Salman has worked as an architect and a LEED consultant for different projects.
Before joining Canadian University Dubai, Dr. Salman was the Director of Interior Design Department at Yorkville University in Canada where she spent more than a decade, having developed, and taught a broad range of on campus and online courses in the program and undertook the role of Acting Program Coordinator and CIDA Coordinator before becoming the Program Director.
Dr. Salman’s research interests include design pedagogy for creativity; curriculum development, innovative design education, online pedagogy, sustainability; human behavior, human-centered design, and social responsibility through investigating how design thinking can be connected to social change to improve users’ daily experiences.
Her book “Contemporary Trends in Sustainable Architecture” was published in 2017. In 2018, she wrote a chapter titled “Sustainability and Vernacular Architecture: Rethinking What Identity is” in the edited book “Urban and Architectural Heritage Conservation within Sustainability” that was published in UK. To explore the shift towards innovative paradigms in design teaching approaches and the future of education in virtual environment, Dr. Salman was the co-author of two chapters in the edited book “Teaching in the Post COVID-19 Era: World Education Dilemmas, Teaching Innovations and Solutions in the Age of Crisis”, that was published in Switzerland early 2022.
Dr. Maha’s student-centered and interactive approach leads her philosophy to create a positive, engaging, and inspiring learning environment
