Biography

Dr. Reem Abu Hweij is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Canadian University Dubai and a DHA-licensed clinical psychologist. She holds a Psy.D. and an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from The Wright Institute in Berkeley, California, and a B.A. in Psychology with First Class Honours from the University of Glasgow. Her teaching and research interests include clinical psychology, psychotherapy, psychopathology, personality, trauma, and the sociocultural dimensions of psychological distress. Her research focuses particularly on culturally grounded approaches to understanding psychological distress and mental health.

Dr. Abu Hweij’s experience spans clinical practice, university teaching, research, and psychological consultation in the United States, Palestine, and the United Arab Emirates. Her scholarly work has explored internalized oppression, collective psychological processes, and culturally responsive approaches to psychotherapy and mental health.
