This a film about people living in contemporary Brasilia in particular focusing on several individuals
Among the guests of honor for the film’s screening were their Excellences the Brazilian Ambassador and the Canadian Consul General, who witnessed first-hand the impact of the movie on the of students.
Bart Simpson has been in a documentary film-maker industry since 1996, and has made four major successful documentaries before creating Brasília. His goal has always been to deliver strong messages while evoking a sense of entertainment and allure. His movies always try to find the connecting point where reality and fiction intertwine to weave a fascinating narrative.
Speaking of the event, Bart said” I first went to Brasília in 2004 to screen another film, and was struck by the space-age, modernist design and building structures. I started seriously researching the film there years later, and my first step was an interview with Oscar Niemeyer - then 102 years old. This have been the last interview he ever did.
“The result set me on a path to do a ‘ground-up’ urban planning film instead of a ’top-down’ one…a film about how the city impacts the lives of citizens today, rather than a film purely about the reasons why it was built. The film became a meditation on the life that begins when the design has ended,” he continued.
Speaking on his reaction to the event he said “I was very impressed at how the event came together so quickly and with such interest from the audience. Thanks to the CUD, and the Canadian and Brazilian Embassies for all the efforts in making it happen.
It was flattering to be treated so well and would love to come back again. I’m glad the film resonates with viewers from many different areas of interest.”
After the event, many students said that they had come into the movie with mixed expectations, but were pleasantly surprised to see how much thought, work, and spirit were put into its production and story. They left feeling absolutely inspired.
