November 13th, 2014: Dr. Kathy O'Sullivan, Executive Director of Student Affairs at Canadian University Dubai, has given the keynote speech at the inaugural Education Innovation Dialogue conference held in Dubai.
The conference, which brought together leaders in educational thinking, was established to provide tools that impact learning outcomes in African schools, integrating 21st century skills to everyday learning experience, as well as facilitating a research driven education culture in Africa.
Dr. O'Sullivan delivered a popular interactive presentation on leadership competencies for driving innovation in schools. Dr. Chris Enyinda, CUD's Chair of Marketing in the School of Business Administration, also presented at the conference, delivering a warmly-received thought-provoking session on building structures for innovation in the Nigerian education system.
The conference was organized by Handz and Mindz Ltd., one of Africa's leading social enterprises on ethics, empathy and critical thinking education in children aged between five and 17. To date, more than 12,000 teachers, parents and pupils have benefitted from training and dialogue, resulting in improved teaching and learning in classrooms.
As part of the conference agenda, many participants visited the Canadian University Dubai, to see creativity and innovation in practice. Irene Bangwell, CEO of Handz and Mindz Ltd, thanked CUD for its commitment to educational excellence, and noted that the University's corporate social responsibility was making a difference in the lives of many students.
Dr. Kathy O'Sullivan said "This conference was an important step in bridging the communication gap between schools and universities. By coming together and having meaningful dialogue, as well as a toolkit of practical ideas to implement, we can ensure that international students in the UAE are prepared for life at university."
