September 9th, 2015: Faculty, staff and students at Canadian University Dubai (CUD) have come together to pay tribute to the 45 brave UAE martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty in Yemen.
Members of the University community gathered together to hear from Islamic studies scholar, Dr. Saif Al Jabbri, about the status of martyrs in Islam and society, and to demonstrate their solidarity with the nation as it mourns the loss of its heroic sons.
Following the UAE national anthem, Dr. Al Jabbri addressed the audience on the significance of martyrdom in uniting a country, and in the case of the UAE, bringing together nationals and expats as one family, with a shared sense of loss, but with a shared goal for justice. He also spoke about the respect afforded to martyrs in Islam and the privileges they are bestowed on judgment day.
Concluding the tribute, CUD President, Dr. Karim Chelli, encouraged members of the University community to offer their thoughts and prayers for all those suffering as a result of the recent losses and the ongoing situation in Yemen.
