Communication Students Visit Dubai Police Command Center

November 8th, 2016: Students from the School of Communication and Media Studies at Canadian University Dubai (CUD) have benefited from a revealing insight into the operations of Dubai Police during a recent visit to the Force’s central headquarters.

As part of their course in communication theories, led by Dr. Wided Dafri, the students discovered the history of the Dubai Police Force, from its inception and early years, to its current role and responsibilities in a high-tech operating environment.

Focusing in on the Force’s role in community service, the students were briefed on the various processes adopted by Dubai Police to promote security, support efficient traffic movement across the City, and to facilitate an efficient response in cases of emergency. They also hear from members of the Force about their role in contributing to the national happiness and positivity agenda.

Reflecting on the experience, student Dana Al Darwish said, “It was fascinating to see all the technology that is now used to help the Police to monitor the City, and how it can be used to make sure issues are resolved quickly and efficiently.”

For fellow student, Abdulla Al Ali, it was also revealing to see how the Force is adopting modern technology to streamline their service provision. He said, “We learnt that many of the Police services are now available to the public through mobile technology; there is even an application that can be used to report minor accidents to help resolve such situations and to minimize disruption on the roads.”

Mohammed Alketebi, another participant on the visit reflected on the communications lessons, saying, “All of the processes we learnt about demonstrate how the Police are actively promoting a message of community engagement and collaboration, to help support teamwork across both the Force and wider society.”
