Communication Students Visit the FNC for Discussion on Media

On May 21st, a contingent of our Arabic Communication students had the opportunityto visit the Federal National Council of United Arab Emirates (FNC) during its discussion on Media in the UAE. The visit was led and organized by Faculty memberDr. Rawa Nahhas and our Executive Director of Community Outreach, Brian Banford.

Ourstudents learnt a great deal and had the honour of meeting with a number of distinguished FNC members; Attendees from the FNC included H.H. Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zayed Al Nahyan - Minister of Foreign Affairs & President of FNC for Media, H.E Suhail Al Mazroui -Minister of Energy, H.E Saqr Ghubash -Minister of Labor and H.E Sheikh Mohammed Al Murr.

During the session topics such as "Policy of National Media Council on Media Legislations in UAE" and "Importance of increasing the Nationalization tendency in the UAE Media sector - were discussed. Areas including establishing specialized Academies and Media Training Centers in the future, licensing Media activities including TV, Radio, and Magazines within the UAE Free Zones in UAE were covered.

The visit also featured a guided tour of the FNC library with the aim of highlighting the importance of research and development. The library tour was followed by the viewing of a short film about the history of the FNC and a visiting session with H.H. Sheikh Abdullah and H.E. Al-Murr.

The visit was a great opportunity for students to learn about how laws are legislated and the future plans for Media in the UAE.
