CUD Celebrates Inaugural Library Days Event

December 13th, 2015: Students, faculty and staff at Canadian University Dubai (CUD) have come together in a series of fun and educational activities to mark the University’s first ever Library Days event.

Organized by Ms. Menchie Armillo and the rest of the library team, the celebration was held to raise awareness of, and encourage students to engage with the wealth of materials available at CUD’s Learning Resource Centre. Over the course of the two-day event, students took part in a range of library trivia competitions, culminating in a closing award ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, CUD President, Dr. Karim Chelli, said that the library is at the heart of any university; the focal point for learning, where knowledge and community converge. He encouraged all students to make the most of the Learning Resource Centre to extend their intellectual engagement.

The ceremony also saw awards distributed for the best undergraduate, graduate and faculty library users. Nissi Sisan George took the undergraduate award, while MBA student Faqiry Mohammad Rafi received the award in the graduate student category. Mr. Mohamed Ahmed from the School of Communication and Media Studies was awarded the prize for best user amongst faculty members.

CUD’s Learning Resource Centre houses a print collection of over 10,000 items, including books, journals and newspapers, along with a wide range of electronic resources, among which are over 52,000 e-journals and almost 500,000 e-books, available on and off-campus, 24/7.
