Students from over 30 nations showcase traditions, music, dance, and cuisine in a vibrant campus celebration.
February 20, 2025, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE): Canadian University Dubai (CUD) recently transformed its campus into a vibrant stage for cultural exchange for the International Cultural Day celebrations. The event was a dazzling fusion of music, dance and interactive booths, authentic culinary delights, as students representing over 30 nations showcased the very best of their heritage.
The students created a lively atmosphere on campus with their enthusiasm for representing their countries. The event provided our students with the platform to celebrate and bring about awareness about their culture and traditions. This celebration also enabled students to experience the rich cultures of other countries and get a greater understanding and appreciation for one another’s countries.
Ms. Shaima Alhai, Student Council President at CUD, reflected on this memorable experience, stating, “It was one of the most successful International Cultural Days to date. This year, the event truly fostered a sense of unity and appreciation for diverse cultures. The overwhelming attendance and the enthusiastic energy from the audience during each performance clearly reflected how much everyone enjoyed and embraced the experience.”
Students celebrated their heritage by wearing traditional attire from their respective countries, displaying a stunning array of colours, patterns, and timeless designs. Their vibrant outfits reflected their cultural backgrounds and their sense of pride and unity. The interactive booths set up on campus offered guests a taste of authentic flavours and fascinating artifacts, with culinary stations featuring specialties from Nigeria, Tunisia, Canada, the UAE, and beyond.
A highlight of the day was the series of 13 live performances. Students from countries including Syria, Palestine, Jordan, the Philippines, Iran, Iraq, Morocco, Egypt, Lebanon, Pakistan, West & Central Africa, and Ethiopia captivated the audience, with a special drum performance spotlighting the musical traditions of India and Pakistan.
Maryam Farahmand, Student Services Officer at CUD, shared her heartfelt sentiments, saying, "International Cultural Day is more than just an event—it is a celebration of our diverse traditions and student stories. The energy and pride each student brought was truly inspiring. A huge thank you to our students, performers, organizers, and the incredible Student Council for making this day so memorable!"
