CUD Design Students Compete for the Opportunity of a Lifetime

September 6th, 2015: Architecture and interior design students at Canadian University Dubai (CUD) are taking on their counterparts at a fellow Dubai university to compete for the opportunity to win a career-defining three-month internship at the Schwitzke Group’s base in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The Project Remake competition, organized by Marina Home Interiors, is challenging senior students to take a simple chair and use their skills and creativity to transform it into a winning design that reflects their personality and flair.

The top ten entries will be exhibited at the Commercial Interior Design (CID) Awards on September 16th and the overall champion will be given the once in a lifetime opportunity of an internship at the headquarters of the international, award-winning design firm.

Sahar Vakil, Head of Brand Development at Marina Home, unveiled the canvas product and revealed the industry elites who will make up the judging panel for the inaugural annual competition at a recent presentation in CUD’s Red Theatre.

The entries will be assessed on factors such as creativity, design functionality, quality of execution and optimum usage, by a group of experts that include Markus Schwitzke, Managing Partner, Schwitzke Graphics, and Khurshid Vakil, Co-Founder, Marina Home Interiors.

Students have seven days to turn their design concepts into reality to secure a place in the CID Awards exhibition, which will see their installations viewed by the who’s who of the design community in the region.

Following the assessment of the judging panel, the finalists will also face a public vote, after which the overall winner and ‘Marina Design Star 2015’ will be named at an award ceremony in the Marina Home showroom, Mall of the Emirates, on September 20th.
