CUD Joins Industry Elite at Cannes Festival

July 14th, 2015: Representatives from the School of Communication and Media Studies at Canadian University Dubai (CUD) have joined A-list performers, international artists, and senior executives from the global media industry at the prestigious Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, held recently in France.

Dean of Communication and Media Studies at CUD, Dr. Franziska Apprich, and a student of the School’s Bachelor of Communications program were selected to attend this year’s Festival, which is renowned for identifying and nurturing young filmmaking talent.

An award-winning filmmaker herself, Dr. Apprich was invited as a guest of the event, based on her international credentials in the film production business, as a student and media practitioner, as well as in academia.

Dubbed the ‘Oscars of the media world’, the Festival brought together leading names in broadcasting, mass media, PR and marketing from across the globe. CUD was the sole representative of the UAE’s growing network of media education and training providers.

Throughout the seven-day event, the CUD delegates heard from some of the biggest names in the business, from the COO of multinational media corporation, 21st Century Fox, to international recording artist Natalie Imbruglia.

The Festival also offered an un-paralleled opportunity to join with thousands of other delegates from around the world to take part in seminars, workshops and master classes, and to experience some of the latest technological innovations that are set to transform the future of the industry.

Dr. Apprich commented, “To go beyond academia and learn lessons direct from the industry’s leading professionals and personalities is a truly unique experience. The Cannes Lions Festival is the most prestigious international event for the multimedia sector and to be invited to join this platform is an immense honor.

“At CUD we always strive to give our students practical experiences that will give them a competitive edge, and the networks we have established through the Cannes Festival will help us to develop a whole range of new opportunities for collaboration, internships and graduate employment, on an international scale.”
