CUD Students Demonstrate Design Flair at Maison D'art Competition

February 28th, 2016: A team of four students from Canadian University Dubai (CUD) have demonstrated their design flair at the Maison D'art ‘Get the Look’ competition, held recently at the renowned fabric company’s flagship showroom in Dubai.

Fourth year students Ghazal Roodelavari and Mehrvash Shanbedi, third year student Fereshteh Kalantari, and second year student Henrique Wagner, represented the CUD Bachelor of Science in Interior Design program at the second edition of the university competition.

Accompanied by program Chair, Mr. Serkan Gunay, the students were among teams of design students from across the UAE who were challenged to develop a unique look for a window display to showcase the Maison D'art new season textile collection.

The teams had just one and a half hours to develop a theme, select fabrics, and create a mood board to present their design concepts to a panel of expert judges, which included Maison D’art Managing Director, Ms. Arij Jandali; Designers Guild Sales Export Manager, Ms. Conchita Valentino; and Finasi Design Principal, Mr. Daniel Badr.

Following a briefing from members of the panel, the CUD team set out to match selected soft-furnishing and other household items with fabrics and upholstery to create an eye-catching display reflecting emerging style and colour trends.

Speaking about the competition experience, Fereshteh said, “It was an extremely interesting and challenging process to work in a design team to develop a concept in such a short space of time. It gave us an excellent insight into working in the professional world, as well as developing our awareness of industry trends.”

Faculty member and team supervisor Mr. Gunay commented, “This is the second time CUD has taken part in the Maison D'art ‘Get the Look’ competition, which provides an excellent opportunity for our students to complete in a showroom environment. I was very impressed with the level of passion, professionalism and ambition the team showed to produce an extremely high-quality display.”
