November 2017 American University of Sharjah: CUD students Elvira Aggoune and Shakhida Zaitova from the Accounting and Finance Programme came first in an Inter-University FOREX Trading Competition organized by AUS.
The competition was a daylong event in which a former trader shared his views on trading as a career, followed by a brief introduction to trading tools. Subsequently, the students had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the trading experience through competing against each another using the market standard Bloomberg Terminal. This provided students with a detailed insight into the world of financial trading and enabled them to apply classroom concepts to real world practices.
Associate Professor Ikhlaas, Chair of the Accounting and Finance program, chose Elvira and Shakhida, two of our top finance students to represent CUD. They came 1st out of the various universities who participated in this event.
Speaking after the event, Dr. Ikhlaas Gurrib offered his personal congratulations to both students and attributed their victory to the fruits of hard work and partnerships with the finance industry.
Earlier this year, Dr. Ikhlaas brought Xtrade, one of the biggest trading platforms from Canada, to CUD to talk to the students about the psychology of financial markets.
Dr Ikhlaas said that only by immersing our students in all aspects of the financial industry could they be exposed to real world situations and competitions such as this with dedicated and experienced facilitators could enhance the work done in the classroom.
