The impact of integration of digital technologies in lost architectural heritage visualization in post-conflict societies 

Monday, November 1, 2021: Mr. Serkan Gunay, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Architecture and Interior Design, Canadian University Dubai (CUD) recently presented his work entitled ‘Impact of Integration of Digital Technologies in Lost Architectural Heritage Visualization in Post-conflict Societies’ at the 28th CIPA Digital Heritage Symposium in Beijing, China.

The hybrid event (online and offline) was organized by Tsinghua University, ICOMOS China, Tsinghua Heritage Institute for Digitization, and the Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and took place from August 28 to September 1, 2021, under the theme of ‘Great Learning and Digital Emotion’.

Mr. Serkan’s study discusses the final stages of his ongoing doctoral research with Oxford Brookes University the School of Architecture, titled ‘Heritage of the ‘Other’; Future of Lost Architectural Heritage’. The article investigates the developing use of digital technologies in heritage visualization, especially with the help of the mobile applications integrating virtual reality and augmented reality tools for lost architectural heritage examples. It also looks at the impact of the use of these digital technologies in the changing perception of heritage and its links to identity discussions in post conflict societies.

Mr. Serkan’s work speaks to Canadian University Dubai’s ongoing efforts to contribute to theoretical and applied global research initiatives, encouraging inter-disciplinary collaborations that contribute positively to the international challenges of society.
