October 7th, 2015: The inaugural gathering of the Canadian University Dubai (CUD) Robotics Club has seen students and faculty from the School of Engineering, Applied Science and Technology visit the second annual Robotic Technology Exhibition (RTEX), held recently in Dubai.
As the only dedicated robotics and automation exhibition in the MENA region, CUD students were given unrivalled opportunities to access training sessions and meet with representatives from leading companies in the robotics arena. Accompanied by faculty members Dr. Sherif Moussa and Mr. Sijo Sudheendran, the group witnessed live demonstrations of some of the latest technology in the field.
Newly established for the 2015-16 academic year, the Robotics Club aims to bring together students with an interest in robotic design, assembly and programming, to collaborate on projects, develop their skills, and work towards taking part in some of the growing number of local and international robotic competitions.
According to the Club’s founder, final year engineering student, Ahmed Farrag, the new society isn’t just for technology enthusiasts. He said, “The aim is to bring together students from a range of disciplines that have an interest in being part of something a bit different, so for example, architecture students who want to be involved in an alternative kind of design.
“Automation is increasing and the application of robotics is growing across various aspects of society, so this is a good opportunity for students from all backgrounds to learn about and work together on something that will have a big role to play in the future.”
