Seast Celebrates a Year of Success

June 11th, 2015: The Canadian University Dubai (CUD) School of Engineering, Applied Science and Technology (SEAST) has hosted a special event to celebrate the numerous successes of faculty and students during the 2014-15 academic year.

Hosted by Lecturer, Ms. Rola Dukhan, the event was opened by Chair of SEAST, Dr. Emad Eldin Mohamed, who paid tribute to the hard work and commitment that brought about some significant achievements for the School throughout the year.

Among those honoured at the event were students Mohammed Baziyad, Ahmed Farrag and Moad Kawan, who made it to the finals of this year’s UAE m-Government Service Awards with their innovative application, SmartCart.

The team was invited to present the app at the Awards finale, held in conjunction with the annual UAE Government Summit, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. The group went on to finish in the top five of their competition category.

Among the faculty recognized during the celebrations was Associate Professor, Dr. Adel Ben Mnaouer, who has recently secured a $900,000 grant from the Qatar Foundation to explore the application of sensor technology in protecting physical assets. This is the third major research grant Dr. Mnaouer has been awarded through the highly competitive scheme, which attracts applications from across the globe.

The event went on to see the year’s top students awarded certificates of recognition by Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Hakim Khali, who encouraged both continuing and graduating students to explore the boundaries of engineering, be creative, have fun, and most importantly, carry on learning.

The celebrations concluded with a technical twist as faculty, students and graduates teamed up to compete in a fun engineering challenge.
