December 6th, 2015: The work of talented students from across Canadian University Dubai (CUD) has been showcased during a four-day campus exhibition to mark UAE Innovation Week 2015.
Day one saw students from the School of Engineering, Applied Science and Technology (SEAST) demonstrate their innovative mobile applications, including SmartCart, a retail app that was ranked among the top five inventions at this year’s UAE m-Government Service Awards. SEAST students also provided a live demo of their robotics skills, following their recent victory in the UAE finals of the GCC Robotics Challenge.
On day two of the exhibition, students from the School of Environment and Health Sciences and the School of Communication and Media Studies showcased their award-winning sustainable campus campaign, which involved a number of strategic initiatives to reduce electricity and water consumption, and won the group the Best Conservation Team accolade at last year’s DEWA Conservation Awards.
‘Think Sustainability’ was the theme for day three, which saw students from the School of Architecture and Interior Design exhibit projects promoting sustainable design in the UAE, and develop a documentary providing their own insights into green development.
Concluding the event on day four was a team of students from the School of Business Administration, who demonstrated their original website design created for the Dubai Customs Intellectual Property Awards. The comprehensive, interactive and user-friendly website earned the team first prize in the Best IP Website category earlier this year.
The program of events for Innovation Week was part of a nationwide initiative launched under the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to help create a widespread culture of invention and strengthen the country’s position as a global hub for innovation.
