Students Hear from UOIT Faculty on Canadian-based Study Options

March 17th, 2016: Students at Canadian University Dubai (CUD) have been hearing from representatives of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) about the opportunities to transfer or take on further study at the Oshawa-based institution.

UOIT Vice-President of Research, Innovation & International, Dr. Michael Owen, provided an overview of the seven faculties, 47 undergraduate and 32 graduate programs that currently host the University’s 10,000 strong student population.

Dr. Owen discussed the distinctive educational practices, whereby all students are provided with a laptop that contains the software applications relevant to their course for each year of their program. He also spoke about the experiential learning that is embedded in the teaching practices of every course, with 96% of all programs having designated industry partners.

The briefing went on to outline the opportunities that exist to get hands-on work experience and to connect with, learn from, and contribute to local businesses. Dr. Owen also spoke about the initiatives the University runs to promote and support entrepreneurship, while Dr. Tarlochan Sidhu, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, spoke about the unique programs UOIT has in automotive and manufacturing engineering.

UOIT is one of CUD’s 12 established Canadian pathway partners, currently offering opportunities for students in Business majors to transfer their credits in their first or second year in order to complete their degree in Canada. The University also offers the opportunity for CUD graduates to go and pursue higher studies or research at the campus in Ontario.
