March 27th, 2017: A delegation of 30 students and faculty members from the School of Graduate Studies at Canadian University Dubai (CUD) has paid a visit to the Abu Dhabi Stock Exchange (ADX), to gain a firsthand insight into the operations of the Capital’s financial hub.
Organized by Associate Professor, Dr. Elgilani Elshareif, the visit was part of a practical learning experience for students of the MBA Managerial Finance and Corporate Finance courses. It also contributed to the continuous efforts of ADX to enhance investment awareness among university students.
During the visit, the delegation was taken on a tour of the exchange and received a presentation on the UAE capital markets. They were informed about the role and activities of the Exchange, its procedures, trading operations and mechanisms, the e-services it performed, as well as its notable achievements.
The students also gained an insight into the innovations operating at the Exchange, including “Sahmi”, a smart kiosk that offers a range of electronic services. ADX is the first exchange in MENA to implement the technology, which can issue new investor number in 60 seconds while also allowing for modification of existing investors’ details and obtaining financial reports and investment statements.
MBA student Nadya Al Arif, who works in Dubai Customs’ finance department, said the visit provided an interesting insight into the workings of ADX. She revealed, “I’ve only previously seen the stock exchange setting on TV so it was fascinating to witness it firsthand and to be immersed in a real-life investment environment helped to bring our learning to life.”
