Cima Exemptions Give CUD Students a Competitive Edge

April 11th, 2017: Students from Canadian University Dubai (CUD) can now gain a competitive edge in the job market thanks to a new collaboration between the School of Business Administration and the world’s largest management accounting body, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

Dr. Ikhlaas Gurrib, Associate Professor and Chair of the Accounting and Finance program, recently organized an information session to introduce the opportunities and routes for CUD students to earn the CIMA professional qualification. During the session hosted on campus, Adenike Olayande of CIMA Middle East outlined the details and benefits of the new partnership. Based on a review of the learning outcomes of specific CUD programs, students can now fast track through the CIMA certifications to qualify more quickly than their peers, and so, give them a head start in the jobs market.

Adenike said, “CIMA has assessed the syllabus of CUD programs and established successful correlations with its own curriculum. This means that, through their university studies, students will already have established skills and competencies relevant to the CIMA program and exemptions can be granted on that basis.”

Under the new agreement, students of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance program can obtain exemptions from eight of the exams that lead to the CIMA Professional Qualification, and the global professional designation of Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA). In addition, those majoring in Marketing, e-Business or Human Resource Management can obtain five exemptions. CIMA also provides exemptions for the MBA program; all details for both undergraduate and graduate programs are available here on the CIMA Global website.

CIMA is recognized as the most relevant employer-led qualification for careers in business and finance, with 100% of the world’s top brands employing CGMAs. In 2011, the organization entered a joint venture with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) to establish the world’s most influential professional body of accountants. CUD students who pursue CIMA accreditation will become part of a combined community of over 600,000 members and students whose expertise is recognized around the world.
