CUD celebrates International Cultural Day

March 21st, 2019: Students representing the many cultures and nations that make up the Canadian University Dubai (CUD) family have gathered on campus in a range of activities to celebrate International Cultural Day.

Over thirty countries were represented, each displaying their culture in the various stalls throughout the venue.

Visitors to the event were treated to an array of exotic national dishes ranging from Soda Bread from Ireland and Poutin from Canada, to Turon, Puto and Kutsinta from the Philippines, as well as many other appetizing offerings.

Throughout the event, the area resounded with the musical contributions of the various participating countries.

DJ Travis J, who has toured and collaborated with Canadian artist including Majid Jordan, Drake and PartyNextDoor, provided the dance music between the performance items. The audience was treated to an eclectic set including instrumental song and dance performances from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Syria, Nigeria, India and Uzbekistan.

Speaking after the event, Dr. Rami El Khatib, Dean of Student Affairs, congratulated the Student Council on their organisation of the event and for making it such a wonderful occasion. He said “events such as these successfully create awareness of just how diverse and creative we are in the CUD family. We all look forward to repeating this wonderful experience next year when we hope many more nations will take part.”
