Tuesday, March 9, 2021: Canadian University Dubai (CUD) alumni are the pride of our University and living proof of the power of education. Today, CUD congratulates Abuzar Barakzai, who recently became Director of Detailed Design at the Ministry of Urban Development and Land in Afghanistan. He graduated from CUD with a Bachelor of Architecture in 2017.
"It means the world to me," states Mr. Barakzai. "I am in a position that I can finally have an impact on modernizing society by creating the right spaces and places for Afghan people. Cities and districts need to be redesigned in a way that everyone feels responsible, and the city design must respond to their needs."
Since childhood, Mr. Barakzai loved drawing and had an appreciation for art. Inspired by architecture and the landmarks of the countries he visited, he felt compelled to study architecture and create similar landmarks for the cities of Afghanistan.
Mr. Barakzai has worked for construction companies in the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Afghanistan. His experience will heavily benefit his responsibilities, which include land conversion and the redeveloping, redesigning, and resketching of detailed plans for the various districts.
"My role helps me to connect everyone in the community. By understanding their needs, I am able to act accordingly; creating appropriate cities, districts, and neighborhoods that have a positive, long-lasting impact on people’s lives."
