February 10, 2026, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE): At Canadian University Dubai (CUD), industry engagement is a core pillar of the University’s mission and a defining feature of the School of Engineering, Applied Science, and Technology (SEAST). Through purposeful collaboration with industry, CUD equips students with the knowledge, skills, and professional mindset required to thrive in real engineering environments and contribute meaningfully to the UAE’s innovation-driven economy.
In line with this vision, CUD has established a collaborative engineering project with Osborn Engineering Company, focused on the design and development of a steady-state lifting mechanism for a bearing machine. The project exemplifies CUD’s commitment to bridging theory and practice by immersing students in authentic industrial challenges that demand technical rigour, safety awareness, and practical problem-solving.
The project is being undertaken by Mechatronics Engineering student Shamma Ibrahim and Anthony Ibrahim from the Electrical Engineering Department, under the academic supervision of Dr. Salih Rashid Majeed. Working within real operational constraints, the students are applying core principles of electrical and mechatronics engineering, control systems, and engineering safety standards to deliver a solution that is safe, stable, efficient, and industry-relevant.
Beyond its technical objectives, the project delivers significant educational and professional value. Students gain hands-on exposure to professional engineering practices, develop industry-aligned problem-solving skills, and strengthen their readiness for graduate employment. At the same time, the collaboration reinforces CUD’s strong partnerships with industry, creating a mutually beneficial ecosystem that supports applied innovation, talent development, and knowledge exchange.
This initiative reflects Canadian University Dubai’s strategic commitment to experiential learning, industry relevance, and the development of highly skilled, future-ready engineering graduates who are prepared to lead, innovate, and contribute from day one.
