CUD and DEWA Launch Six-Month Net-Zero Knowledge Partnership

October 29, 2026, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE): The Centre for Sustainability and Innovation at Canadian University Dubai (CUD) has established a six-month Net-Zero Knowledge Partnership with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the government utility responsible for electricity and water services across Dubai. Delivered through DEWA's Sustainability Talks Programme, the partnership will strengthen the strategic and practical capabilities of DEWA employees in support of the UAE's transition to Net Zero by 2050. It moves beyond conventional awareness sessions to focus on knowledge transfer, professional development and direct application to DEWA's operational and strategic priorities.

Working with the School of Engineering, Applied Science and Technology (SEAST), the School of Architecture and Interior Design (SAID) and the School of Management (SOM), the Centre will co-organize six training sessions for DEWA employees, beginning on Friday, December 11, 2026:

  • “Sustainability, Human Experience, and the Future of Living”, led by the Centre for Sustainability and Innovation
  • “Engineering the Net-Zero Future: Technologies That Will Transform Energy and Water”, led by SEAST
  • “Water Security 2050: Can Engineering Solve the Global Water Challenge?”, led by SEAST
  • “The Circular City 2050: Reimagining Resources, Buildings and Infrastructure”, led by SAID
  • “Climate Finance, ESG and the Economics of Net Zero”, led by SOM
  • “Climate Risk Is Financial Risk: What Every Business Leader Needs to Know”, led by SOM

The partnership builds on the Centre's ongoing work with DEWA. In November 2025, the Centre partnered with DEWA's Climate Change and Sustainability Department to deliver a specialized training session for DEWA employees on the urgency of climate change.

Dr. Chureerat Haq, Assistant Professor and Manager of the Centre for Sustainability and Innovation, said, “CUD is well positioned to act as a knowledge partner since the university has formally committed to UAE Net Zero 2050 and has established sustainability governance, research and capacity building activities spanning engineering, architecture, green economics and finance, social sustainability, and climate action. CUD's sustainability strategy also identifies SDGs 6, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 17 as key areas of alignment. The Centre is also working on other projects with DEWA, including a sustainability leadership academy programme for the 2027 implementation.”

The partnership reflects CUD's commitment to knowledge sharing, capacity building and meaningful industry engagement.
