SAID Hosts First Professional-alumni Gathering

March 28th, 2016: The School of Architecture and Interior Design (SAID) at Canadian University Dubai (CUD) has hosted its first event dedicated to bringing university alumni and other industry practitioners together with current students and CUD faculty to share their experience of professional practice in the field.

The event, hosted by Associate Professor, Dr. Hamoud Dekkiche, saw professional architects from the Dubai design industry present some of the major architectural challenges they have been working on, as well as providing insights into the latest innovations and industry trends.

Among the presenters was CUD alumnus Alan George, a 2012 graduate of the Bachelor of Architecture program, who now works as an Architect for the Dubai-based boutique firm, Ecogreen.

Alan discussed his career to date, highlighting some of the stand-out projects that he has had the opportunity to work on, including the design of villas on the Germany island of The World Islands Dubai development, and the uplift of the retail and recreation destination, Deira City Centre.

Alan went on to talk in detail about his work on the design of the Electric Way HQ building in Al Aweerm, and discussed some of the innovations that were applied to promote sustainability and energy efficiency in the building’s operations and maintenance.

Throughout the event there was lively debate, with the audience posing challenging questions to the professionals surrounding specific design approaches. The gathering also provided the opportunity for current students to develop their networks into the local industry.
