July 17th, 2016: Canadian University Dubai (CUD) lecturer and artist in residence, Sylvain Tremblay, has added to the equine art collection of Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, with his recent work entitled Spirit of the Union.
The painting, one of a number of equine pieces crafted by the Canadian artist, depicts seven horses walking together in the desert, to represent each of the seven Emirates. Adopting his trademark technique of showcasing the landscape and heritage of the UAE through his work, it uses sand from the Liwa desert and shell from the creek to symbolise the country’s pearl diving history.
Tremblay gifted the piece to HRH Princess Haya, renowned as an accomplished show jumper, and former President of the International Equestrian Federation. Expressing her gratitude for the gesture, HRH Princess Haya said, “It is always nice to see how people express their love for horses.”
Last year, Tremblay donated his Blue Horse painting to the Formula E charity event hosted at the Natural History Museum in London. The piece was bought by The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, and contributed to more than $1 million being raised in support of ONE DROP and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, to support a new safe water access project in Guatemala.
Speaking about the latest royal recipient of his work, Tremblay said it is a great honour to be part of the Princess’ collection.
