CUD Takes Its Place at Global Academic Meeting

November 9th, 2016: Faculty and students from Canadian University Dubai (CUD) have taken part in an interdisciplinary debate on the world’s foremost societal challenges at the 6th edition of the Global Academic Meeting, held recently in Dubai.

Dr. Yassen Alfoteih, Assistant Professors and Chair of the School of Public Health & Health Sciences, was among those chairing the discussions at the multidisciplinary gathering of researchers, policy makers and practitioners from across the international community.

Promoting interdisciplinary exchange, the annual event is organized to provide a platform for participants to share their insights into current challenges in society and make recommendations for future development. Contributing to the debate on health and the environment, Dr. Alfoteih discussed issues surrounding the hygiene criteria for seawater.

Addressing fields as diverse as engineering, economics, psychology and gender studies, the event also represented an excellent learning opportunity for a group of five CUD students who were given privileged access to the global gathering.

Among the group was third year student Hauwa Mohammed Sani Sorondinki, who said, “With speakers from so many different disciplines the Global Academic Meeting was a very unique experience. It provided us with the opportunity to see the real-world application of scientific research, while also learning about other academic areas and business practices.”

The Global Academic Meeting is convened by the European Scientific Institute, an international academic platform that aims to promote action towards the worldwide exchange of knowledge, including the publication of its monthly European Scientific Journal.

Following his participation in this year’s event, Dr. Alfoteih has been invited to join a group of esteemed international academics on the Scientific Committee for future editions of the Meeting.
