Communications Professor Discusses Media Education on Dubai Tv

December 7th, 2016: Dr. Wided Dafri, Assistant Professor in the School of Communication & Media Studies at Canadian University Dubai (CUD), has featured on local television channel, Sama Dubai, to discuss different aspects of media education at the University.

Dr. Dafri was invited to speak to daily show presenter, Abou Omar, about how students of CUD’s School of Communication & Media Studies benefit from a practical as well as theoretical approach to learning within their degree program. The interview was part of a visit by the School to Dubai Media Incorporated, which was one example, Dr. Dafri said, of how the University exposes students to the industry.

She said, “In fields like PR, advertising and journalism – each of which are majors within the Bachelors of Communications program – it is both important and extremely beneficial for students to get practical experience before they graduate. Site visits like this enable students to get a taste of the real world of professional media and to focus their career aspirations, while making important industry connections.”

The interview also coincided with UAE Flag Day and Dr. Dafri went on to talk about the celebrations held at the University and the pride it brought out in the whole Dubai community. Following her appearance on Sama Dubai, Dr. Dafri was also interviewed by two of the network’s radio stations.

As part of the visit, the students themselves had the opportunity experience life in a TV studio, exploring the techniques and technologies used by in modern journalism, and taking part in interview role plays.
