Leonardo José Mataruna-Dos-Santos brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Canadian University Dubai as an Associate Professor.
He has a PhD in Sport Management – Physical Education from the Gama Filho University (Brazil), a MSc./M.Res in Adapted Physical Activity from UNICAMP – State University of Campinas (Brazil), a Bachelor’s degree (HONS) in Physical Education and Sport for School; and a BSc PE in Health, Recreation, and Rehabilitation from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). He also has several specializations in: Militaries Studies Management (Brazilian Navy), a PGDiploma in Human Resources from the Brazilian Association of Technology (Brazil), a PGDiploma in Conflict Resolution from Coventry University (Brazil), a PGDiploma in Sport Training – Judo from both the Brazilian Army and Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), a PGDiploma in Higher Education from Candido Mendes University (Brazil), and a PGCert in Olympic Studies from the International Olympic Academy (Greece), and Loughborough University (United Kingdom).
Dr. Leonardo also has a PosDoc in Sport for Development from the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relation at Coventry University (United Kingdom), a PosDoc Sport Management from the Technische Universität München, Fakultät für Sport- und Gesundheitswissenschaften (Germany) and a PosDoc in Contemporary Culture from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, (Brazil). He has a FIFA Medical Certificate from the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (Switzerland), International Entertainment and Sports Marketing Certificate from the Yonsei University (Korea), an Olympic Games and Media Certificate from Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (Spain), Google Adwords Certificate (United States), Fundamentals of Digital Marketing Certificate (United States), and an Apple Teacher Certificate (United States).
In the Equine Track Studies, Dr. Leonardo is certificated by Michigan State University (United States), receiving credentials from My Horse University in Biosecurity for Horses, Industry Labour Force in Equine, and Horse Sense: Equine Youth Safety. He is a FREYA Ambassador of European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (No.777523) as well as an Ambassador and Member of the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) Education Committee (Canada). He is also a part of the Social Science Research Expert Advisory Group of WADA and a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Advisor. He is a Marie Curie Fellow from the European Union in two projects: (FP7) LONRIO to investigate the social legacies and the transferability of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and (FP6) CARNiVAL to analyze the social impact of the mega events across seven countries.
Dr. Leonardo is that Director of International Relations at International Federation of Physical Education (FIEP). He is visiting professor at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and visiting research fellow of University of Lille (France) and Coventry University (United Kingdom). He is also member of the three International Research Groups - GD Inter Sport Management Consortium, ECLB-COVID-19 Consortium and COVID-19/Sleep Consortium.
He is an official member of important organizations in the field, such as the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM), the European Association for Sport Management (EASM), the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand (SMAANZ), Sport Management Latin-American Association (ALGEDE), Brazilian Association of Sport Management (ABRAGESP), Brazilian College of Sport Science (CBCE), British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES), European Association for the Philosophy of Sport, British Philosophy of Sport Association and The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
Dr. Leonardo is a Black Belt in Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Taekwondo. He was part of the Brazilian Olympic Team participating in technical team as coach from Sydney 2000 to Rio de Janeiro 2016. Dr. Leonardo is also journalist and act as football commentator for the Arabian Gulf League for the Abu Dhabi Sportv and Dubai Sports.
